Planning to fly carry-on only with Porter? Make sure you know the rules—especially if you booked a Basic fare.

• Carry-on bag: 55 × 23 × 40 cm (21.5" × 9" × 15.5") — must fit in overhead bin
• Personal item: 33 × 43 × 16 cm (13" × 17" × 6") — must fit under seat

Important: If you booked a Basic fare on a domestic or transborder flight, you only get a personal item—no carry-on bag. You can upgrade to "Basic Express" for about $15 to add carry-on access, or buy the BMO VIPorter Mastercard which includes carry-on on Basic fares.

If you want to stay within Porter's standard fees, stick to these limits:

• Maximum weight per bag: 23 kg (50 lbs)
• Maximum size: total linear dimension (length + width + height) up to 158 cm (62")
• Absolute maximum size: 203 cm (80")—beyond this, not accepted
• Absolute maximum weight: 32 kg (70 lbs)—beyond this, not accepted

Some items fly free and don't count toward your checked bag allowance:

• Mobility aids and medical devices
• Car seats and strollers (can be counter-checked or gate-checked)

Sports equipment like golf clubs and curling gear count as one checked bag at the standard fee. Bicycles require an additional $50–57.50 CAD handling fee per direction.

Overweight & Oversized baggage on Porter

Porter handles overweight fees differently than most airlines—they charge per kilogram over the limit, not a flat fee:
