Shipping Your Skis to Aspen/Snowmass
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Fast and reasonably priced
Fast and reasonably priced! I shipped skis and ski gear and it was delivered in just a few days. I highly recommend LugLess!

Shipping skis to Aspen means your skis are in the hotel ski room before your flight boards. If your CRJ-700 can't land in a crosswind and diverts to Grand Junction, you lose an afternoon, not your first two days on the mountain. LugLess books the FedEx or UPS shipment from drop-off to delivery, and your skis travel by ground a week ahead. Here's where to send them, when, and how.

Where Your Skis Go in Aspen and Snowmass (Not the Lift)
You can't ship skis to the Silver Queen Gondola or the Snowmass Base Village lifts, but you can ship them to your Aspen or Snowmass hotel, to a rental address, or to the FedEx Office or UPS Store in downtown Aspen, and carry them to the lift from there.
- Aspen carrier counters. Two counters sit a few blocks from the gondola: FedEx Office Ship Center, 411 S Spring St, and The UPS Store, 625 E Main St, Ste 102B, open seven days. A second FedEx Office at 111 Aspen Airport Business Center is useful if you arrive at ASE or EGE with a car.
- Ship skis to Snowmass lodging. Snowmass Village has no FedEx Office or UPS Store. The only UPS presence is a drop-off partner at Ajax Supply, 16 Kearns Rd, and it doesn't offer pickup. Ship to your hotel or condo, or ship to Aspen and ride the free bus.
- Viceroy Snowmass. The hotel at 130 Wood Rd accepts advance shipments of skis and luggage at $5 per item for the first five days, then $5 per item per day. It has a Four Mountain Sports ski valet on the third floor.
- Hotel Jerome and The Little Nell. Hotel Jerome (330 E Main St) and The Little Nell (675 E Durant Ave, the only ski-in/ski-out hotel on Aspen Mountain) list luggage storage and ski service but publish no package fee. Ask for the package fee and the label format when you book.
- Basalt. Renting in the mid-valley? Basalt, 18 miles down valley, has a FedEx Ship Center with hold-for-pickup at 35 Sunset Dr.
- Label format. Guest name as booked, arrival date, "Hold for guest," and the hotel street address.
- Timing. Ship to arrive two to three days before you do, and track it.
If you want your skis carried to the hotel ski room by a courier who hands them over in person, that's our sister service, Luggage Forward. LugLess ships by FedEx and UPS, so your ski bag goes to your hotel, your rental or a hold-for-pickup counter in Aspen, and you carry it to the gondola.

Why Aspen Is the Airport to Ship Around
- Runway

- Closed
- April 4 to November 19, 2027
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is three miles from Aspen and six from Snowmass Village, with nonstops from nine cities on United, Delta and American.
The Aspen airport closure in 2027. ASE shuts from 11 p.m. on April 4, 2027 to November 19, 2027 for a runway rebuild. Alternates are Denver, Grand Junction, Montrose and Eagle. Aspen Mountain's season runs to April 18, 2027, two weeks past the closure. If you're skiing late season, plan on a drive.
The runway. It's 8,006 feet long at 7,820 feet of elevation, with a 95-foot wingspan limit, so only the CRJ-700 and E175 fly in commercially. Wind brings "delays, cancellations, and weight restrictions."
What a diversion looks like. One holiday-weekend storm produced more than 50 cancellations in a day and six diversions out of 37 arrivals, four of them to Grand Junction. Diverted flights go to Grand Junction, where the airline arranges a shuttle to ASE, or to Denver, where you arrange your own.
Back-ups by road. Eagle airport to Aspen is 70 miles. Denver to Aspen is 190 to 220 miles, depending on which resort page you read. Independence Pass is closed for the winter, so every drive comes up the valley through Glenwood Springs.
Shuttles. Epic Mountain Express has discontinued its Aspen/Snowmass service. The resort lists Roaring Fork Express for DEN and EGE transfers.
Vail skiers use EGE too; see Shipping Your Skis to Vail. Comparing small-airport resorts? Read Shipping Your Skis to Steamboat Springs.
Four Mountains, One Ski Bag
One lift ticket covers Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk: 5,680 acres and 40-plus lifts.
- Getting between towns. The RFTA bus between Snowmass Village and Aspen is free. You carry your own skis on it, so bring ski straps.
- The terrain. Aspen Mountain has no beginner runs and 3,267 feet of vertical on 673 acres. Snowmass has 4,406 feet of vertical on 3,362 acres. People bring the skis they trust on this trip.
- Aspen ski rental and storage. Four Mountain Sports gives renters free overnight storage and free transfer between the four bases.
- Snowmass ski storage for owners. The resort's ski corrals rent by the month or season, $350 per 30 nights at Aspen Mountain and Highlands. For nightly ski check on your own skis, ask your hotel's ski valet.

Flying with Skis into Aspen, If You Still Want To
- Delta and American. Both count one ski bag plus one boot bag as a single checked item. Over 50 lb, the overweight fee applies. American waives the oversize fee. Delta won't accept an item over 115 linear inches.
- United. See United's sports equipment page and check the current rule.
- Diversions. A bag checked to ASE on a diverted flight is the airline's to deliver later. Ask the airline how they return diverted bags to Aspen before you check a ski bag.
How Shipping Skis to Aspen Works with LugLess
- Pack. Use a padded ski bag or hard case, with bindings secured and tips and tails padded. Boots and outerwear can share the bag. Shipping a board instead? See ship a snowboard.
- Pick a size. Skis go up to 45 lb and 76 x 9 x 8 inches; Large Skis up to 90 lb and 76 x 15 x 9 inches. A boot bag usually ships as a carry-on.
- Get a quote. Enter your destination (Aspen or Snowmass hotel, rental, or the Aspen FedEx Office or UPS Store), bag count and a delivery date two to three days before arrival in the LugLess calculator.
- Ship and track. LugLess compares FedEx and UPS rates and sends digital labels. Drop the bag at any FedEx or UPS location or book a home pickup, then track it from drop-off to delivery. Value protection is optional.
Checking skis means two checked items each way, plus whatever a diversion costs you. Compare airline baggage fees before you decide.
FAQs
Can I ship skis to the Aspen or Snowmass gondola?
No. You can't ship skis to the Silver Queen Gondola or the Snowmass Base Village lifts. Ship them to your Aspen or Snowmass hotel, a rental address, or a hold-for-pickup counter in downtown Aspen: FedEx Office at 411 S Spring St or The UPS Store at 625 E Main St. Both are a few blocks from the gondola. Pick up your bag, carry it to the lift, and use your hotel ski room or valet for storage between ski days.
Is there a FedEx or UPS Store in Snowmass Village?
No. Snowmass Village has no FedEx Office or UPS Store. The only UPS presence is a drop-off partner at Ajax Supply, 16 Kearns Rd, and it doesn't offer pickup. If you're staying in Snowmass, ship to your hotel or condo. You can also ship to a counter in Aspen and take the free RFTA bus back to Snowmass with your skis.
When does Aspen airport close in 2027?
Aspen/Pitkin County Airport closes at 11 p.m. on April 4, 2027 and reopens November 19, 2027 for a runway rebuild. Alternates are Denver, Grand Junction, Montrose and Eagle. Aspen Mountain stays open to April 18, 2027, so late-season skiers will fly into another airport and drive. Ship your skis ahead and they'll be at your lodging when you arrive.
What happens to my ski bag if my Aspen flight is diverted?
It depends on the airline. A bag checked to ASE on a diverted flight is the airline's to deliver later, so ask the airline how they return diverted bags to Aspen before you check a ski bag. Diverted flights go to Grand Junction or Denver. A ski bag shipped by ground a week ahead isn't on the plane, so a diversion doesn't change where it ends up.
How early should I ship skis to Aspen?
Ship to arrive two to three days before you do. LugLess advises 5 to 10 business days in winter peaks, so plan backward from your arrival date. Christmas week and X Games week (January 29 to 31, 2027) are the two to pad. Hotels fill and package desks get busy, so add two days of buffer those weeks. Track your shipment until it's delivered.
Does the Viceroy Snowmass accept shipped ski bags?
Yes. The Viceroy Snowmass accepts advance shipments of skis and luggage at $5 per item for the first five days, then $5 per item per day. The hotel is at 130 Wood Rd and has a Four Mountain Sports ski valet on the third floor. Use your name as booked, your arrival date and "Hold for guest" on the label.
Can I ski all four Aspen mountains on one ticket?
Yes. One lift ticket covers Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk. That's 5,680 acres and 40-plus lifts. The free RFTA bus runs between Snowmass Village and Aspen. Renters at Four Mountain Sports get free overnight storage and free transfer between the four bases. Owners can ask the hotel ski valet about storage. Ready to send yours?
