How LugLess works: from booking to delivery
Book online, ship through FedEx or UPS, track every step, and meet your bag at the door. Skip the airport baggage claim entirely.
LugLess is luggage shipping made simple. You book online, get a label sent to your phone or printer, drop your bag at a FedEx or UPS location (or schedule a pickup), and track it all the way to your destination. Your luggage shows up at your hotel, home, or wherever you are headed, and you skip the airport baggage claim entirely.
How LugLess works
The whole shipping process is built around five steps. Each one is designed to take minutes, not hours.
Get a quote and book your shipment
Start with the shipping calculator. Enter your origin, destination, and bag details, then compare carrier options and delivery dates side by side. You pick the speed and price that fits your timeline. Booking takes about two minutes.
Pack your luggage
Use the bag you already have. A standard suitcase, duffel, ski bag, golf travel case, or sturdy box all work. Pack like you would for any trip, with two extra rules: skip prohibited items (medications, electronics with batteries, aerosols, alcohol), and pack a copy of your shipping label inside the bag in case the outer label gets damaged in transit.
Get your label and send your bag
LugLess offers three label options so you are not stuck depending on a printer:
- Print at home from the email we send
- Digital Labels sent to your phone, scanned and printed at the carrier counter
- Pre-printed labels mailed to you
Once your label is attached, drop your bag at any FedEx or UPS location. You can also use an existing pickup at your office or hotel, or schedule a paid pickup at your home, work, or hotel during booking. Whichever is easiest.
Track your shipment in real time
After your bag is in the carrier network, track it from your LugLess account: My Account, View Trip, Next Steps, Track. Each item ships with its own tracking number, so if you are sending multiple bags, you can follow each one separately. You will get email or text updates along the way, and a notification the moment your bag is delivered.
Your luggage is delivered to your destination
FedEx or UPS delivers your bag directly to your destination. Standard delivery typically arrives by 5:00 PM at businesses and 7:00 PM at residences. Air services are usually delivered by 10:30 AM or 12:00 PM. No baggage claim, no airport carousels, no waiting around for the unlucky bag to come out last.
What happens after you book
Once you book, LugLess hands the shipment off to FedEx or UPS, and from that point the bag moves through the same network that delivers everything else in your life. Your job is mostly to wait and watch updates come in.
If you booked a pickup, the carrier comes to you on the date you selected. If you are dropping off, you have until end of day on your scheduled send date to bring your bag in. Drop off late and your delivery date may shift, so it is worth getting it there early when you can.
Throughout transit, you can check status from your LugLess account or directly on the carrier's site using your tracking number. We will email or text you when your bag is delivered, so there is no need to call your hotel and ask if it is there yet.
How long does luggage shipping take?
Delivery time depends on the service level you choose, the distance between origin and destination, and weekends or holidays in the mix. Ground shipping is the most economical option and works well when you are planning at least a week ahead. Express and air services move faster but cost more.
LugLess only ships within the United States. For international shipments, our sister company Luggage Forward handles those routes.
The shipping calculator shows available delivery dates for your specific route as soon as you enter your addresses. That is the most accurate way to plan, since transit times can vary by zip code and time of year.
Rule of thumb: ship 5 to 7 business days before you need your luggage at its destination. For peak travel weeks (summer, holidays, school move-in season), give yourself a few extra days.
How LugLess compares to airline baggage handling
Checking a bag at the airport means standing in line, paying overweight or oversized fees, watching your luggage disappear onto a conveyor belt, and praying it shows up on the other end. Airlines move millions of bags a day, and a small percentage do not make it to the right place at the right time.
Flying with a checked bag
Line up at the counter. Pay fees that change by airline, route, and season. Hand over your bag to a conveyor belt. Hope it shows up at baggage claim. Repeat at every connection.
Shipping with LugLess
Your bag moves through FedEx or UPS, gets scanned at every stop, and arrives at your destination the same way an Amazon package would. No baggage claim, no fees that change depending on the airline, no surprises at the gate.

How much does it cost to ship luggage?
Shipping cost depends on size, weight, distance, and how fast you need it there. The good news is that LugLess shows you actual rates from FedEx and UPS side by side, so you can pick the cheapest option for your timeline.

Common questions about how LugLess works
Is LugLess safe to use?
Yes. LugLess uses FedEx and UPS, the same carriers that deliver millions of packages every day. Every shipment is tracked from the moment it enters the network until it is delivered, and you get a notification when your bag arrives. Eligible bookings also include on-time delivery guarantees that pay account credits if delivery is late through carrier or LugLess fault.
How early should I ship my luggage?
We recommend shipping 5 to 7 business days before you need your luggage at its destination. For rural areas, peak travel weeks, or large shipments, give yourself a few extra days. The calculator will show you exact delivery dates based on your route.
Can I ship luggage internationally?
LugLess only ships within the United States and within Canada. For international luggage shipping, our sister company Luggage Forward covers those routes.
Do I need to be present for pickup or delivery?
Usually no. For pickup, the carrier follows the same rules as any FedEx or UPS pickup, so you can leave your bag in a designated spot if needed. For delivery, carriers will deliver to single-family homes, apartment package rooms, hotels (held at the front desk under your reservation name), and businesses without requiring a signature. If the driver does not feel it is safe to leave the bag, they will leave a door tag with instructions to coordinate redelivery.
What happens if my luggage is delayed?
Tracking gives you real-time visibility, so you will see a delay before it becomes a problem. For shipments with an eligible support plan, LugLess offers two on-time guarantees: a Carrier Guarantee that submits a claim on your behalf and pays a $10 account credit if the carrier approves it, and a Full Guarantee that pays a $20 account credit for delays not caused by factors outside LugLess control. For status questions during transit, the fastest path is contacting FedEx or UPS directly. They have 24/7 support and can give you the most up-to-date information on your bag.
Where can I have my luggage delivered?
Almost anywhere FedEx or UPS delivers. Common destinations include homes, apartments, hotels, businesses, college campus package rooms (carriers do not deliver to individual dorms), and FedEx or UPS hold locations. For short-term rentals, cruise ports, and airports, we recommend shipping to a nearby carrier hold location instead of the address itself.
