Have a Cool Yule at the Best Christmas Cities in the U.S.

Christmas cities

Craving a Christmas trip? We’ll admit: it takes a lot to get us out of our cozy jammies. But one thing never fails, and that’s traveling. And with so many awesome Christmas cities in the U.S., there’s never a need to stay home during the holidays.

So will it be tacos under a palm tree? Or a snowy, starry mountain sky? Whatever your mood, one of these holiday destinations is sure to satisfy your winter wanderlust!

  • Asheville, NC

If you’ve watched one too many Christmas movies, it’s time to visit the quaintest of Christmas cities.

Set amongst the gorgeous backdrop of the Smoky Mountains, pretty Asheville offers the makings for the ultimate Hallmark Christmas. There’s a gingerbread house competition, a holiday bazaar, winter lights at the Arboretum, and even a Jingle Bell Trolley Ride.

While you’re in town, stop by the Biltmore Estate for a magical candlelit evening.

Best Holiday Destination: for starring in your very own holiday rom-com

  • Las Vegas, NV

Looking for an OTT (over-the-top) holiday? Then head to Vegas, baby!

The big casinos go all out with their Christmas sparkles, which you can check out for free when you hit the tables. And be sure you visit the Bellagio, which transforms its famous nightly fountain show into a winter delight with holiday music.

Another can’t-miss: The Cosmopolitan and its rooftop ice skating rink, fire pits, and all-day Christmas movies… plus hot adult beverages, of course!

Best Holiday Destination: for landing on the naughty list

  • Orlando, FL

If you have little ones, you’re probably looking for Christmas cities that the whole family will enjoy. And that means Orlando, the House of the Mouse.

The biggest parks are, naturally, the biggest draws. Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld all offer special events made just for kids (or kids at heart). The nearby Gaylord Palms Hotel gets in on the Christmas action with ICE!, an immersive Christmas extravaganza.

If you’re traveling from a cooler climate (which is basically the rest of the country), Cocoa Beach is just a short drive away for a little boost of vitamin D on your Christmas vacay!

Best Holiday Destination: for kids (or kids at heart)

  • North Pole, AK

Yes, you really can visit the North Pole for Christmas. And with street names such as Kris Kringle Drive and Mistletoe Lane, it’s a stand-out among Christmas towns!

The North Pole really is a winter wonderland, complete with Santa Claus House, where kids can visit the Big Guy himself.

Other wintry activities include dog-sledding, reindeer petting, and an amazing ice sculpture display.

Best Holiday Destination: for a possible Santa sighting

  • Solvang, CA

Dreaming of the traditional European Christmas markets? Skip the trans-Atlantic flight and head to Solvang, a distinctly Danish town with SoCal weather (and proximity!).

The entire month of December is known as Julefest, a lights-and-music-filled celebration brimming with holiday activities and events. Think candlelight caroling, parades, and even a scavenger hunt… for gnomes!
Afterward, stop by the Solvang Brewing Company, located in a restored windmill, for a Christmas craft beer (or two!).
