How to Spring Break the Right Way

Where to head for a killer good time

You’ve been plugging away at school work since you got back from Christmas break. You got through the gray, gloomy days of winter. Let’s be real: you guys deserve a break. But not just any break. You deserve a warm, sunny, and (dare we say it?) epic spring break!

And luckily for you, we’ve got the inside scoop on where you should go. Check out our favorite cities for spring break fun.

  • Key West, FL

Really, any place in Florida is good for spring break. Think awesome weather, warm waters, and that only-in-Florida vibe.

But for our money, Key West is the island to be. The southernmost point in the U.S. has plenty of activities to choose from. Go boating, snorkeling, paddle boarding, fishing… or just lay by the pool and work on your tan lines.

Sunset is a can’t-miss event on Mallory Square, with street performers, locals, and tourists breaking into applause at the vibrant colors. Afterward, make your way up (and down) Duval Street and its famous bars, including Hemingway’s fave: Sloppy Joe’s.

If you have a rental car, you can head north for a day trip into the other Keys—or even make your way up to Miami for some people watching on South Beach.

  • Las Vegas, NV

What happens in Vegas… well, you know the rest! And what better theme for the ultimate spring break getaway?

There’s so much to see and do in Sin City that your spring break will fly by in a blur of dice and drinks! Your best bet is to stay on the Strip, (officially known as Las Vegas Blvd.), home to the major casinos. And even if you’re not a big gambler, they’re worth checking out. After all, it’s the only place where the Eiffel Tower, streets of NYC, and Egyptian pyramids are all within walking distance of one another.

And don’t miss Vegas’s other attraction: the food. The city is known for its fabulous buffets, open all hours of the day (and night!). Your taste buds will thank you!

  • Moab, UT

If the idea of lounging on a beach during spring break sounds like absolute torture, then Moab is the place for you! This city is a total playground for nature enthusiasts.

First up is its proximity to one of our favorite national parks: Arches National Park. The landscape is unlike any other, with its stunning, soaring red rock formations.

Then there’s the weather. It’s warm enough to be outside with the heat exhaustion and sunburns that would normally accompany a desert getaway.

Hiking is the big draw here, but you can also have fun with other outdoor pursuits. Have fun riding ATVs, rafting, and mountain biking throughout the area.

  • Panama City Beach, FL

How could we leave the city that bills itself as “The Spring Break Capital of the World” off our list? Easy answer: we can’t!

With 27 miles of white sand beaches leading into the warm, azure waters of the Gulf of Mexico, this beach destination is an absolute paradise. But not a tranquil one…

Late-night beach concerts, raucous nightclubs and bars, and epic pool parties are the spring break norm in Panama City Beach.

You’ll probably spend most of the daytime lounging on the beach (and recovering from the night before behind your oversized sunglasses). But if you feel up to it, there’s parasailing, beach volleyball, and jet skiing.

Best Spring Break City: for dancing the night away on the beach

  • South Padre Island, TX

Some of the best—and largest—parties of the year happen during spring break on Padre Island.

Thousands of spring breakers spend the day sipping poolside drinks before heading out for the night for one of the infamous SPI concerts. Local acts and national headliners alike can be found performing on the shores of the legendary Rockstar Beach.

South Padre is also known for catering to almost any budget. From swanky all-inclusives to condos that hold the whole crew to beachfront campgrounds, you’re sure to find the right place to stay.
